Vault has a wide number of available metadata fields, but Enterprise accounts are also equipped with the ability to create unlimited custom metadata fields. 



Note: Users must have permission to "Add Tags" to modify this feature.


Create a Custom Metadata Field Category

  1. Go to the Assets tab.

  2. Scroll until you see Custom Metadata.

  3. Select + Metadata Field.

  4. Give it a name.

  5. Click OK.



Create a Custom Metadata Field Subcategory

  1. Go to the Assets tab.

  2. Scroll until you see Custom Metadata.

  3. Find the Category you wish to add to.

  4. Hover and click the plus sign icon when it appears.

  5. Give your new subcategory a name.

  6. Click OK.


Tip: If you want your users to enter new information instead of choosing from preset categories, use the Open Text option. 



Add an Open Text Option

  1. Go to the Assets tab.

  2. Scroll until you see Custom Metadata.

  3. Find the Category or subcategory you wish to edit.

  4. Hover and click the slanted letter ‘I’ icon when it appears.




View All Custom Metadata Fields

  1. Go to the Assets tab.

  2. Scroll until you see Custom Metadata.

  3. All categories are here in table form with options to expand or collapse.



Edit a Custom Metadata Field

  1. Go to the Assets tab.

  2. Scroll until you see Custom Metadata.

  3. Find the Category or subcategory you wish to edit.

  4. Hover and click the pencil icon when it appears.

  5. Change the name of your field.

  6. Click OK.



Delete a Custom Metadata Field

  1. Go to the Assets tab.

  2. Scroll until you see Custom Metadata.

  3. Find the Category or subcategory you wish to delete.

  4. Hover and click the trashcan icon when it appears.

  5. Confirm your choice.
