If you have a large batch of assets to upload, it's best to do so using our S3 Uploader and your preferred FTP client. (We'll be using CyberDuck for the screenshots in this article.)
Our S3 Uploader also gives you the ability to import assets that are stored in an existing folder structure (ex: from your desktop, hard drive or shared server) that you want to maintain in Vault (as Collections).
Here's how to do it:
Step 1 -Under Your Name -> Account -> Organization Settings, click the Ingestions tab. These S3 Credentials are unique to your organization's Vault account. (If you do not see this option under your account, contact your Vault administrator to gain the necessary permissions.
Step 2 - Open your FTP client and open a new connection. Select the Amazon S3 connection (the default is usually FTP), and enter the Server, Access Key and Secret Key information. Click Connect and upload your assets. If you wish to maintain an existing folder structure, make sure you maintain that folder structure in your upload. The upload time will vary depending on how many assets there are, how large the files are and your internet connection.
Step 3 - Once all of your assets have been successfully uploaded to the Vault server, go to your Vault account and create a new Upload Set. While in the Upload Set, Click the set's name and select "Import from S3" from the dropdown menu.
Step 4 - The "New S3 Import" pop-up modal will already be pre-populated with the information needed to connect to your organization's bucket on the Vault server. Simply click the blue "Begin Import" button.
Step 5 - Once you begin importing, you'll be taken to another screen that will show you how many assets are being added and how many have completed processing. Once the entire process is finished, the upload will be labeled as finished with a date and timestamp.
Step 6 - When the import process has finished, you can find this upload set under Assets -> Upload Sets. PLEASE NOTE: If you imported assets in a folder structure, you must click the Create Collection icon next to the Upload Set name to recreate the folder structure as Collections. (This process can take awhile if you have a complex folder structure.)
